Frankie Sierra designed this kernel to sit deliberately between the tight spread of Floyd-Steinberg and the wide reach of Jarvis, using ten neighbours across two rows.
It produces a slightly softer grain than Floyd-Steinberg with better gradient handling, without going as soft as Jarvis. If Floyd-Steinberg looks too noisy on your image and Jarvis looks too smeared, this is usually the answer.
When Floyd-Steinberg is too noisy and Jarvis is too soft.
