PICO-8 is a fantasy console: hardware that never existed, designed deliberately with modern taste. Its sixteen colours were chosen rather than inherited from a limitation, and it shows.

The set is unusually well balanced, with a proper spread of warm and cool tones and no awkward gaps. It is the most flattering small palette here, which is exactly why it was designed that way.

Almost anything. The most forgiving sixteen-colour option available.
